A Pilot Exemption Certificate (PEC) allows an eligible master to navigate a specified vessel in pilotage waters without engaging a marine pilot.
A PEC applies to a specific vessel and port.
A vessel master applying for a PEC must meet the requirements outlined in the Marine Standard 6.3 Training and Certification of Pilot Exempt Masters for Victorian ports.
A PEC may be issued to the master of a vessel over 35 metres that regularly visits the Port of Melbourne, Port of Geelong, Port of Hastings, Port of Portland or another Victorian port where pilotage is required.
A PEC is valid for 2 years.
