Port Works notification – now online

Ports Victoria has implemented a new online notification system for persons intending to conduct works in port waters. The online notification process consolidates all port works notifications across all three ports (Melbourne, Geelong and Hastings) into a single platform, streamlining notifications into one efficient process.

Users access all notifications through one online portal, with supporting documents easily uploaded and available on both desktop and mobile.

Submitting a Port Works notification online

Ports Victoria requires notification for all works that take place on, over or under port waters¹.

Processing of works notification may take up to 2 business days² for Routine Works and 10 business days² for Major Works. To prevent delays to works, contractors are encouraged to submit notifications with consideration of required time frames.

How to submit

  • To submit a Port Works notification, use the online form
  • Complete form details and attach supporting documentation
  • Your notification will enter a workflow, and you will be notified by email when your notification has been processed

² A notification which includes prohibiting navigation in a particular area by establishing an exclusion zone, a Notice must be published in the Government Gazette. To enable Safe Transport Victoria (STV) to facilitate an exclusion zone request, the applicant must complete the required application. Please email navigationservices@ports.vic.gov.au for further information. A minimum of 12 weeks’ notice is required to facilitate an exclusion zone request.
